Amanda Compton, Owner

You have taken a chance on a new NZ designer, not knowing what to expect and I am grateful for that. I can't wait to see you in my designs, hear about the fun you have wearing them and meet some of you in person!

I'm Amanda, the Designer and Director of Lady Blue and this has been a dream of mine for a very long time. Born in Wellington but now living in Palmerston North, I’m 29 years old and have the most beautiful family I could ask for (you will be seeing lots of photos of my fur children in the future). I love catching up with friends, dancing and talking non-stop. I've always been interested in fashion and dressing up and always noticed the power that looking good has, on making me feel good.

Three years ago, I decided that I needed to take action. I was going out and catching up with friends frequently but felt I had nothing to wear. I felt blah about what was in my wardrobe and what was available to buy. I no longer wanted to buy chain store clothing; it didn't feel me anymore, it didn't make me feel like a lady and get the butterflies that a great outfit can give you. I had recently had hip surgery and that had massively impacted on my self-esteem and ability to exercise. I felt like nothing fitted me properly and I felt uncomfortable in my clothing.

Everything clicked for me one night when I went to a presentation on wearing what makes you happy so I went home and started cutting out images of clothing styles that I liked and drawing my own designs. When I received a book from a family member on fashion design I knew I was following the right path. One thing lead to another and Lady Blue was born.
